10 Worst Decisions of the last 10 years

Posted on Linkedin (en Français) so I am translating it for here:

New trend following a comment from Jean-Luc SansCartier:

To follow the LinkedIn trend, here are my 10 WORST decisions of the last 10 years, in no particular order.

  1. Being accepted into the DEC program in social work, only to end up not doing it (pandemic, going back to school + more complicated than expected, in-person classes during pandemic times, inflation, etc…)
  2. Staying a web developer for too long! (I should have left that field during the pandemic, even a bit before…)
  3. Toughing out romantic relationships for too long, putting my mental health at stake
  4. Falling into a debt spiral after getting huge salary increases… yiiiiiiikes 😬
  5. Having periods of intense alcoholism (you know, instead of dealing with your problems, preferring to drink them away and party… not my best!)
  6. Not calling out my burnout sooner, generating lots of physical health problems on top of screwing up my mental health!
  7. Not investing in my RRSPs earlier
  8. Forcing myself to be a person I’m not in the end (it’s only recently that I learned to accept that I’m a neurodivergent LGBTQ+ non-conforming person who lives alternatively compared to most people…)
  9. I should have spoken up more often (damn impostor syndrome!)
  10. Not finishing my certificate in cyber investigation

There you go, if it can inspire others, go for it! In short, we all learn from our mistakes, and we can survive our worst decisions and do better in the future! It can only get better when we own up to our bad decisions and change for the better. That’s the goal of Life: grow better!
