Reading this post, Finding flavor in life, brought me back to my old career as a web developer, where I was completely addicted to the high salary that comes with that type of role. I had been craving a career change for at least the last 5-10 years, and even though I tried to quit during the pandemic years, I just couldn’t make it happen. The fear of losing that high salary as a security asset for my monoparental ass was an enormous stress. Being the sole purveyor for my family was stressful, having to shield us from all the rising costs of life (housing, food, kid’s clothing and schooling, etc.) brought overwhelming anxiety to my already anxious mind. No wonder my psychological health was in the cesspit of doom: it brought me so much pain and anxiety.
Now, almost a year and a half into my career change, I feel so much better. Yes, I took a huge drop in salary, but I’m living comfortably; I’ve gotten rid of my debts; I am slowly starting to have a financial safety net; and I no longer have the constant urge to cry myself to sleep. It’s truly good for my soul!
